The trials will take place on Thursday 12th and Thursday 19th May at Creasey Park Community Centre in Dunstable. There are 10 teams looking for new players with age groups ranging from under 7’s to under 16’s, players of all capabilities are welcome.

The Current under 9’s side was formed three years ago and The Vine Magazine is proud to have sponsored the team since it was formed. Youth Football Coach, Paul Fisher, says “We’ve had a great season, winning more games than we’ve lost, and we’ve got a couple of tournaments coming up so hopefully we can continue the success.” he added  “The team moved into the under 9’s this season and we’ve made the transition from 5 a side to 7 a side but the boys have taken it all in their stride. It’s fantastic to see them growing in skill, confidence and fitness and really playing as a team. The players are improving with every game, they’re  learning new skills and techniques and really gaining a better understanding of game.”

When asked what he’ll be looking out for at the trials he said “We’re looking for new players with a good attitude, who enjoy playing football and want to develop their skills further and with that we can hopefully continue our success next season.”

But paul says there’s more to being part of the team than being successful on the pitch

“Due to the close team bond that’s formed, I’ve kept hold of all nine boys from last season and added just one more player. As well as having a great season on the pitch, we make time for some off-field activities too such as the Christmas bowling party.” He added “All ten boys have agreed to stay together for next season which is a great sign of the friendships they have made over the last 2-3 years.”

He went on to say “Although it’s nice to win, there are other benefits to joining a team.  It’s a great social activity, it gets the kids outdoors and keeps them active, they get to learn new skills and it instills discipline, dedication and a sense of responsibility to other team members.”

As well as new players, some teams are looking for local sponsors to help cover the cost of Kit and equipment.

Paul said “Thanks to the sponsorship we received from The Vine magazine and a few other’s we were able to deck the boys out in a brand new kit and each got a quilted coat which the boys loved and it proved invaluable during the winter.”
