As The Queen Turns 90, Dunstable Sings Happy Birthday Ma’am
Residents of Dunstable and Bedfordshire gathered this evening at the Dunstable Downs Chiltern Gateway Centre to wish The Queen a Happy 90th Birthday.
Hundreds braved the wind to watch the lighting of the beacon which marked The Queen’s 90th year. The Beacon was lit at precisely 7.30pm as part of a trail of similar lightings across the country, starting in Windsor at 7pm, where the beacon was lit by the birthday girl herself.
The lighting of the beacon was followed be a chorus of Happy Birthday and a big three cheers.
Austin Smith, a ranger for The National Trust, had the honor of lighting the beacon, he told us “It’s all part of the job” and in preparation for the task he had “raised a mug of coffee this morning”.
