Two local schools will be getting a Christmas bonus from their favourite village eatery.
Artisan cafe, Heirloom, which is located at 14 High Street, Edlesborough, is launching a range of Sausage rolls using recipes which were cooked up by pupils from two local Primary schools.
It’s all part of Heirloom’s ‘Sausage Rolls For Schools Month’ which begins on December 1st with the aim of raising much needed funds for the PTA’s of both schools.
The team at the much loved cafe has been working closely with the pupils from Eaton Bray Academy and Edlesborough Primary school since the beginning of November and set them the challenge of designing their own flavours of sausage roll. The cafe then chose their top two favourite recipes from each school before meeting with the respective student councils who chose their own overall finalists to represent their school. Throughout Sausage Rolls For Schools Month the expert chefs at Heirloom will translate the winning recipes into real products which will be available to purchase. The new flavours go on sale from 1st December, with 50p from each sale being donated to their respective School PTA to help fund much needed purchases at both schools.
Representing Eaton Bray Academy : Cranberry, Cheese and Tomato
Representing Edlesborough Primary School : Mushroom and Sage
Both flavours have been combined with Heirloom’s Gloucester Old Spot sausagemeat, and hand crafted into delicious sausage rolls that will be added to the menu along with their already famed sausage rolls.
You’ll be able to follow the progress of which schools flavour is in the lead, by checking out the, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, “sausage-ometer” which will be on display in the cafe’s window.
Heirloom was established in Edlesborough in 2016 by Adeline and Scott Vining who have sought to help local schools with their Food In Schools policy by getting primary school students involved in the recipe testing process. They are also closely involved with Eaton Bray Academy’s year 6 initiative to build their own restaurant and played host to the whole year, during a lunch at Heirloom, where they gave a talk on how their food was made and sourced.
Since opening their doors, Heirloom has been raising the bar on local eateries and has become renowned locally for their delicate flavour combinations and their desire to make everything in house – from the pickles to the sauces and their infamous brownies. Serving hand roasted, speciality coffee from their own roastery, Weanie Beans, alongside a selection of carefully thought out dishes made using locally sourced ingredients, award winning meats and home grown produce wherever possible, the team at Heirloom are as passionate about food and drink as can be.
