Dunstable Adventure Play Area Opens At Bennett’s Rec
A new adventure play area has been built in Bennett Memorial Recreation Ground in Dunstable.
Dunstable Town Council proudly announce the completion and opening of a £200,000 adventure play area at Bennetts.
The new play area, which is situated in the centre of the park next to the existing splash park and nearby Splashside Café, is designed for all ages and abilities and has plenty of fun and challenging equipment.
Children can enjoy the five platform multiplay unit with two slides, an adventure trail climbing jungle, a climbing boulder, two trampolines set in the ground, a rustic seesaw, a multi child swing, a low level trail climbing path, 3 low level bridge jungle climbing routes, 35 stepping posts set at various heights and a double zip wire aerial runway. The rustic natural look to the playground was an important element of the design and for this reason, Robinia Wood was used. It is an extremely hard durable wood making it excellent for outdoor play equipment.
David Ashlee, the Council’s Town Clerk and Chief Executive said ’I am very pleased and excited about the new edition to the park and I hope that it will further contribute to the regeneration of the town centre environment’
- £176,000 of funding for the new play area came from Section 106 planning gain secured by Central Bedfordshire Council and awarded to Dunstable Town Council
- Dunstable Town Council added a further £24,000 and took on the project delivery and management.
- The play area was built by Playground Supplies Limited from Kettering using German made Zeigler play equipment. Each piece of equipment is hand crafted and is unique to Dunstable.
With the splash park reopening on 3rd May for the 2019 summer season the Council hopes that visitors to the park and the town will have a good day out at Bennett’s. And of course it is all free. How much fun does that all sound?
For those visitors travelling by car there is plenty of parking space at Ashton Square car park (off Bull Pond Lane and West Street) which is free on Sundays, Tuesday afternoons and bank holidays.
