Celebrations As Bedfordshire Students Receive A-Level Results
Early indications for provisional results for state-funded schools across the whole of Central Bedfordshire show that 86.9 per cent of students achieved three of more A-levels (or equivalent) at A*-E, up 4.2 per cent from last year. The average points score per student has also risen dramatically from 2015, up almost 94 points from 724.1 to 818.
There have been plenty of individual success stories too.
At All Saints Academy, in Dunstable, Jonathan Wylie gained a triple distinction qualification in his sport BTECs; Chandler Russell claimed A*, A and B grades in maths, further maths and physics and will now study maths at Southampton; and business studies student Laurna Haynes will not just be the first person from her family to go to university but her two distinction grades at BTEC and B and C grades at A-levels means she has gained a scholarship for her chosen course at Gloucestershire University. English literature students excelled at Queensbury Academy, gaining on average an A* grade. Among top individual performers were Nicholas Allam (A*, A, A, A and a merit in the advanced extension award in mathematics); Flora Dempsey (A*,A, A, C) and Ella-Louise Kelly (A, B, B). There was also great news from Manshead with a 99 per cent pass rate and 40 per cent of students at the Caddington school getting A*-B grades. Read more on the school’s website.
Councillor Steven Dixon, Executive Member for Education and Skills, said: “My congratulations and best wishes to everyone who received their A-levels today. I am delighted that so many students across Central Bedfordshire have done so well, and it shows that we are continuing on our upward trajectory here in terms of results.
“This is down to their hard work as well as the support of their schools, teachers and families, and I wish them all the best for the future – whatever their plans.”
All Saints chairman of governors David Fraser said: “We are really pleased with our results. So many of our students have worked hard to achieve these excellent grades, which means that more students than ever are leaving All Saints with an excellent preparation for the world of work and further study.”
Harlington Upper headteacher Shawn Fell said: “A level results at Harlington are excellent again this year with many very high grades. Students and staff have worked incredibly hard and have been rewarded with wonderful grades. We are delighted with the performance of our students and wish them every success as they move on to university and employment.”
Manshead headteacher Jim Parker said: “The students deserve great credit for the effort and determination they showed in achieving such impressive results this year. There have been some remarkable individual achievements of which students and their parents should be very proud. Perhaps most importantly the success enjoyed by the students at Manshead sixth form means that they have secured their university places and employment opportunities.”
